Workspace Wednesday v.4

Yesterday was overcast and gloomy, so today's sunshine and mild temperatures are that much more appreciated. I finally got some soil for my hyacinth, and she's sitting pretty in her blue ceramic pot. I moved the seedlings to sit in front of the sunny window, there are bird songs outside my office window, and in general, it feels like spring today. My nights have been busy with fabric cutting for my newest quilt endeavors, one for a wedding gift and one for me and Mike. I loved the patterns I was picking for the wedding quilt so much that I got double, so we'll have matching quilts: one in Texas, and one in Massachusetts.

Not-so-workspace-Wednesday

This week's been a doozy and it's only Tuesday (hello from the past!). The paperwhites are blooming lovelily (that's a word now), Mike made me dinner tonight (I've been surviving on cereal and hot dogs since his stomach issues began), and I just sent off a project before the deadline. Plus I bought a new bathing suit at Target last night, and I'm in can't-wait-can't-wait mode for the cruise next week. Not much is happening in my little workspace this week, so instead I'll share some more photos from Nemo this past weekend. The blogosphere needs more pictures of that guy.

Workspace Wednesday 3

My little studio changes almost every day, whether it's my computer, sewing machine, clay, or inks, this desk has been my creative home for the past six months. It feels so good to have a space to spread out and make a mess. And a place to hide my chocolate covered almonds from Mike, too.

Workspace Wednesday 2

I've been wanting to try out watercolors for a while now, and this past weekend, while in the 'burbs visiting Mike's family, we went into Michaels to kill some time. They were having a big clearance sale, and in the pile was this wooden case set of watercolors. I couldn't believe it! I got a great beginner's set for only $8! I couldn't wait to break it out on Sunday, and I started my very first watercolor. I have a long way to go, to learn about planning a painting and sketching it out, but I love the silence and concentration involved in the whole process. What new thing are you learning these days?

Workspace Wednesday 1

I know what you're thinking: What is that amazing child's drawing?! First of all, no, I do not have a four year old child. Nor did I scan one of the many works of art my niece made for me. But I did follow along on a YouTube tutorial on how to use the pen and pencil tools in Illustrator. 

I started out by Googling Illustrator tutorials, and after half an hour of frustratingly Googling how to do all of the things the several tutorials I tried told me to do, I decided I was jumping too far ahead. (I have a tendency to do that.) So I backed it up a bit and learned the basics of using two of the basic tools. I plan to keep track of my progress here, whether it's learning Illustrator or Photoshop or sewing. Workspace Wednesday will be whatever I'm working on, even if it just looks like a crude children's drawing.
